Reflections from Our Bookshelf: Can’t Hurt Me

Reflections from Our Bookshelf: Musings on how we view reading a bit differently

Can’t Hurt Me: Master Your Mind & Defy the Odds
By: David Goggins
Reflection By: Rob Victor

Why I read it? I read this book because I am constantly trying to find ways to grow mentally. The title caught my eye; knowing that Goggins served in our armed forces mattered. I believe our military personnel are some of the strongest and mentally driven people on our planet. Why not learn from them?

What is it all about? Most people never work on their mind the way they do their body. Goggins does a phenomenal job laying the groundwork of how to train your mind the same way you train your body on a day to day basis.  He is extreme, but his simple (not easy) challenges are ways for you to grow your mental capacity every day.

What caused me to pause? This book caused me to pause and think about how I approach every day. David Goggins’ personal story causes you to think anything is possible if you put your trained mind to it. His concepts and challenges allow you to think through your day to not only handle adversity, but also success.

How will this book change my habits or influence me? The book has already changed my habits. He is keenly aware of how to separate the chaos that occurs every day by training the mind to work through the minutia. It’s not only about discipline and growth, but more importantly creating a vision for what you want.

Add this to your reading list if… you want to be challenged, grow, and develop a perceptive vision of your life. Hopefully this book will help you define your own purpose.
