Reflections from Our Bookshelf: Good to Great

Reflections from Our Bookshelf: Musings on how we view reading a bit differently

Why I read it? Good to Great is a classic book in the business community and one that has been recommended to me countless times. With all that hype, it was time to give it a go!

What is it all about? The basic gist of the book is how companies can go from doing well, being profitable and just chugging along (aka good), to being stellar companies that are growing by leaps and bounds with phenomenal leadership and employees that are well suited for their roles (aka great).

What caused me to pause? The idea that caused me to pause in this book was something called the Hedgehog concept. A hedgehog when faced with danger forms its body into a little ball to evade predators. It’s known for this one defense strategy and does it well – the best in fact. This can be translated to business. Rather than a company doing multiple things good, a company should put all their effort into doing things in a great way.

How this book will change my habits/influence me? This book has challenged me to think more about discipline. If you’re not disciplined in thoughts and actions, you can’t expect great results.

Add this to your reading list if… you want to learn proven concepts to better not only your business, but your life.
